The maneki neko began as a clay figure sold outside Sensoji temple around 170 years ago. CAPPIII reworks that form as a contemporary art toy. We keep only what makes a maneki neko a maneki neko — the raised paw, the seated posture, the frontal stance — and rebuild everything else.
Running a shop for visitors to Japan means watching, every day, how Japanese charms and crafts are chosen and carried home. What we learn on the shop floor informs what we publish here.
